Books Donation to INEC Law Library
Within the context of the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN), the European Centre for Electoral Support donated books and reference materials to INEC legal services department in order to foster its legal capacities and competencies in election alternative dispute resolution.
The legal sources donated include books on jurisprudence, criminal and civil procedures, legislative drafting, Nigerian Weekly Law Reports and cases and materials on election petitions and appeals.
Underlining the usefulness of the legal materials to INEC, the Chairperson of INEC Legal Services, Hon May Agbamuche Mbu said the “…. donations would equip Legal Officers of INEC to efficiently and promptly deliver on their onerous tasks of rendering legal opinions, defence of INEC in courts and tribunals, prosecution of electoral offences and drafting of agreements and other legal documents’
Other support that will be rendered to INEC legal services department within the context of EUSDGN include trainings on global best practices for legal officers, election petition, compilation of landmark judicial decisions on the electoral process and fostering better understanding and use of Election Alternative Dispute Resolution (EADR).
Under the component 1 of the EU-SDGN, ECES with funding support from the European Union will offer technical assistance to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the 2017-2022 electoral cycle.
