INEC LIVE CITIZENS TOWN HALL ON YOUTH AND NON-VIOLENT PARTICIPATION IN THE 2020 EDO GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION
On Friday, August 21st, 2020, ourEuropean Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria project held a one-day live radio phone-in programme on #Youth and Non Violent Participation in the September 19th, 2020 Governorship #elections in #Edo State.
A total of 23 people partook in the event drawn from youth-focused groups representatives, HQ and office staff from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC Nigeria ) , among others.
Following a background introduction by the moderator and initial discussions between attendees, the telephone line was open to enable listeners to call in for contributions, questions, clarifications and inputs.
The event sought to
-- Encourage meaningful and effective participation by the youth group;
-- Reduce apathy among the young segment of the Edo electorate;
-- Promote peaceful conduct before, during and after the election;
-- Build confidence and trust in the electoral process.
-- Place INEC among the entities that encourage and maintain best international practices.
