Conflict Prevention Toolkit

From the 3 of December to the 7 of December, The Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC), in partnership with the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), are creating an electoral conflict and management toolkit. This toolkit is a basic guide to the mitigation of violence surrounding election in South Africa. The information in it will be relevant to anyone promoting the values of electoral justice and working to ensure an environment for free and fair elections to take place.

Present for the creation of the toolkit writing were 8 Provincial Officers from the IEC, as well as 5 Provincial Electoral Officers. By including members from across the country, the toolkit will be able to look at issues both on the national and provincial level, providing a scope that is relevant to all practitioners.

By providing a space for senior provincial members of the IEC to meet and exchange ideas, PEV-RSA hopes to create a more lasting impact preventing electorally related conflict in South Africa that will go beyond the next electoral cycle.

Also present is Rindai Chipfunde-Vava, Host Director of the Election Support Network of Southern Africa and Executive Director of Zimbabwe Election Support Network.
