Tanko Ahmed, fwc, was born on December 24th, 1953 in Bisichi Mining Village, Barikin Ladi LGA, Plateau State – His father hailed from Garun Gabas, Malam Madori LGA, Jigawa State, Nigeria. He attended N. A. Central Primary School, Jema’a, Kafanchan; Gyel Commercial College, Bukuru for his primary and secondary school education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from The Richmond American International University, Surrey, UK (1982); and MSc in Strategic Studies from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2011). He is a fellow of the National War College, Abuja, Nigeria and a Senior Fellow (Security & Strategic Studies) in the Department of Security and Strategic Studies of the Research Directorate, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru. He is currently a PhD candidate in Defence and Strategic Studies, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. Ahmed was Secretary General of the Alumni Association of the National Defence College (AANDEC). His areas of specialization include sociology, public administration, national security, policy analysis and strategic studies. He has written and presented several papers at lectures, conferences, workshops and seminars in and outside the National Institute on culture, policy and strategy, national security and leadership strategy. He publishes widely in books, journals, monographs and conference proceeding. His publications include a book 'The Pay Day' (1980); book chapters 'Quail Farming and the Strategy of Productive Time Management: An Experience of a Civil Servant Farmer' (2008), National Veterinary Research Institute, Vom; 'Nigeria and the Challenges of Nation –Building: The Role of the Founding Fathers' (2012), with Prof M. O. Maduagwu in 'Nigeria's 50 Years of Nation- Building: Stock-Taking and Looking Ahead' NIPSS, Kuru; and ‘Culture and National Development in Nigeria’, ‘Community Models as Tools for Sustainable National Development in Nigeria: Filling the Strategic Gap’ NIPSS Monograph Series, January 2013. Others include a series of Primary and Secondary school books on puzzles for enhancement of mental aptitude and a Book Review on ‘Nigeria Dancing on the Brink’. Ahmed is a Springer International author.
