The programme includes the following four components: Parliamentary support, Electoral assistance, Support to the political party system and Support to Civil Society Organisations.
All planned actions, reflect EU principles and values, as well as, the new approach titled “A European Response to Electoral Cycle support (EURECS)”, developed by ECES and EPD members.
ECES is the leader of the consortium of European non-profit organisations that will implement this project for the next four years. The other members of the consortium are: the European Partnership for Democracy -EPD, the French Media Cooperation Agency–CFI; the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy – NIMD and Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
The global objective of the project is to support Jordan's reform process towards consolidation of deep democracy and to promote inclusiveness of national policy and decision-making processes, including women and youth, leading to a stronger democratic political culture and to deepen the role of civil society in contributing to democratic governance and policy making.
The specific objectives of this project are:
- Strengthen the functioning of the House of Representatives (HoR) in exercising its core parliamentary functions in a professional, accountable and transparent manner,
- Enhance the functioning of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and other key stakeholders, contributing to elections conducted in a professional, transparent and credible manner,
- Support the political party system (PP) in contributing to democratic governance and policy making in particular in the HoR.
- Foster the development of active civil society organizations in the promotion of political participation, advocacy, electoral observation and parliamentary monitoring, with a focus on women and youth
